Nature inspired home decor ideas to lift your living space and bring an inspiring, nature connected feel to your home.
Spending time in nature is a wonderful way to bring us a sense of calm, lift our mood and improve our wellbeing. It’s personally an important part of my own process to relax and feel connected to the natural world, and I know it’s the same for so many other like-minded folk.
As an artist inspired by nature, I always try to bring a little of the natural world into my home to create an inspiring, relaxed and nature connected space.
I would love to share with you a few of my own personal favourite and easy ways to bring a sense of nature into my own home which I hope will inspire you with a few ideas to take into yours!
1. Bring plants into your home
Bringing plants into your living spaces is such an effective way to instantly transform the feel of a room.
They are a wonderful way to lift a space, and literally bring nature indoors. Bringing house plants into areas throughout the home can transform our rooms into calm, green, nature connected spaces.
Plants are also a great way to add seasonal decor to your home. For instance, during spring, bringing a few potted bulbs indoors is a really wonderful way to welcome the new energy and life that springtime brings after an often long winter. While in autumn, putting together a dried flower arrangement with leaves, twigs and other forest finds can add a touch of seasonal charm to a living space.
2. Scents of the forest
Scented candles, wax melts and incense are a wonderful way to use our senses to connect with nature in our homes.
There are many candle makers who create the most wonderful nature inspired scents perfect for reconnecting us with woodlands and wild places. One of my own favourites which I often use while working in the studio is this Scandinavian forest scented candle which brings together a wonderful mix of pine needles, fir cones, birch sap and woodland lily of the valley. I could close my eyes and be sat in a forest with this candle burning!
But of course there are so many to choose from. Another lovely way to choose different nature inspired scents for your home is to think about them seasonally. So you may look for a fresh floral inspired scent in summer or a cosy earthy option over autumn and winter.
3. Open your windows
Opening a window allows the crisp freshness of a new day into your home and let the sounds of nature fill your living space.
It’s such a simple one but also so effective!
On rainy days, leaving the window open just a little allows us to enjoy that lovely, cosy background sound of rain falling. While on early spring mornings, popping the window open to listen to the birds singing is so uplifting and a lovely way to connect with the new energy of the season.
Whether it's rain falling, wind whistling or the morning song of birds, these background sounds we get from an open window offer connection to the natural rhythms that surround us and our home - while also refreshing the air indoors!
4. Adorn your walls with nature
One of the most wonderful ways to bring nature into your home is by adorning your walls with nature inspired art that you love.
As an artist, painting gives me the opportunity to create uplifting, decorative artwork that reflects the beautiful and bountiful wonders of the natural world, and it’s a pleasure to offer my work to folk who are looking to bring nature into their living spaces.
Nature inspired artwork can be used in so many ways to elevate your space, whether it’s a living room focal point, nature inspired nook or part of your gallery wall. Art can be a wonderful tool to connect with the nature and wildlife you love in your home.

5. Living seasonally
Add seasonal nature inspired touches to your home to feel connected with nature throughout the year.
From enjoying hearty meals in autumn to adjusting our wardrobes through the year, we already naturally adapt our daily lives to reflect the passing seasons. But introducing small nature-focused seasonal rituals to our living space can be a wonderful way to connect to the changing seasons of the natural world.
As mentioned earlier, adding a couple of seasonal focused touches such as scented candles, plants, artwork and sounds from the outdoors can help connect with nature from the cosy, comfort of home. These simple acts of bringing in elements of nature indoors not only enhances our living spaces but can help us feel more connected to nature as we move through our year.
